It is getting closer!

I have just started selling raffle tickets and am still planning the pancake breakfast at Aubrey's Restuarant. The pancake breakfast is on:

JULY 11th, 2009 at the Aubrey's Restaurant off Papermill from 8-10 am. Tickets are $5 per person for all you can eat pancakes.

Everything with getting my VISA is pretty much squared away. My goal is to mail it by Monday or Tuesday. I have just received my FBI background check, which is not as cool as I thought it would be. Also, I found a great rate on medical insurance while I am gone, which will cover all major injuries, plus regular doctor visits for a reasonable amount. I hope that I won't need it, but just in case.

Well I hope all is well.

Going To Africa

This post is to give individuals who are visiting my blog that I have not seen or talked to in a long time the opportunity to see what I have been doing and a little information about my future.

I just graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Masters in Communication and Information and a minor in Public Health. I am very passionate about working with youth and helping adolescents see that through hard work and dedication they can alter their life circumstances. I was blessed to have a very supportive family and friends that have supported me in every major life decision; whether it be going to undergraduate at EOU, or driving across country to live in Knoxville without knowing anyone. However, not all kids have this and this is what I hope to do with my life is to create networks of support for kids who need it.

Therefore, I have been selected as a Grassroot Soccer Intern for the years 2009-2010. I fly to Capetown, South Africa on July 31,2009 and will be returning on August 15, 2010 (just in time for the UT vs Oregon football game!!). Grassroot soccer is a non-profit organization that uses the power of soccer in the fight against AIDS. Grassroot Soccer provides African youth with the knowledge, skills and support to live HIV free. To view more information on Grassroot Soccer visit grassrootsoccer.org.

As Grassroot Soccer is a nonprofit organization, they can not provide me with monetary support. I am having to fund this trip and my living expenses through fundraising. Luckily, I have friends, Whitney and Jeremiah Smith, who have let me move in with them. This allows me to save money as I am still working full time. Any donation made on this website or via mail is tax deductible;Grassroot Soccer’s Federal Tax ID number is #43-1957920.

For those of you who know me well, you know there is not a better fit for me. I am really excited about this opportunity and can't wait to see where it leads me in the future. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
